On Friday morning, Major League Baseball released a revised 2021 spring training schedule. The Phillies will play a total of 28 games (14 home and 14 away) against the following five opponents: Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles and Pittsburgh Pirates.
The new schedule eliminates split-squad games as well as matchups against teams like the Tampa Bay Rays, Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves, whose spring training facilities are outside the Phillies’ designated regional pod.
As part of the league’s health and safety protocols, managers could also mutually agree to play five or seven-inning games between Feb. 27 and March 13. Games from March 14 to the end of spring training will be scheduled to last nine innings unless both managers agree to shorten the game to seven innings.
If you’re interested in attending a game in Clearwater, you’re in luck. The team announced that a maximum of 2,200 fans will be allowed in the ballpark each game, which is just over 25 percent capacity at the Phillies’ spring training ballpark formerly known as Spectrum Field.
Single-game spring training tickets go on sale on Feb. 19. Tickets will be available on phillies.com or by calling 215-463-1000. Seats will be sold in individual pods ranging from two to four tickets. Concession stands will be open. All fans ages two and older will be expected to wear a face-covering at all times, except when actively eating or drinking in their respective seating pod.
