The City of Philadelphia has announced that it will allow some fans to return to sporting events beginning on March 1. This will have a direct impact on Phillies games at Citizens Bank Park.
The number of fans will be capped at 2,500, which is currently the state limit. The City of Philadelphia cannot allow any more patrons than the maximum allowable at the state level. Interestingly, events will not require proof of vaccination for entry into the ballpark.
Opening Day 2021 – April 1 against the Atlanta Braves – is slated to be the first Phillies game since September 29, 2019 with fans in attendance.
Obviously, tickets for games will be highly sought after. It’s not yet clear how the Phillies will decide who gets access to the small number of tickets. Health Commissioner Thomas Farley also stated that under current rules tailgating will not be prohibited.
As the season progresses, it is reasonable to assume these restrictions will be lightened as more people are vaccinated and state laws relaxed.
