Could the Philadelphia Phillies soon play in front of a capacity crowd at Citizens Bank Park? The path to such a reality became possible Tuesday.
As Dave Uram of KYW NewsRadio noted, Dr. Thomas Farley, Philadelphia’s health commissioner, said Tuesday that the Phillies will be permitted to have as many fans in attendance as they choose beginning on Saturday, June 12.
That weekend, the Phillies will host the New York Yankees for a two-game set on Saturday and Sunday after having Friday off. If the Phillies choose to allow every seat in the stadium to be sold, one would think they won’t have a problem selling the stadium out for both games. The organization hasn’t yet decided how they will proceed:
While the Phillies played in front of sell-out crowds in Atlanta last weekend, there will be one major difference if they have a capacity crowd at Citizens Bank Park anytime soon – masks will still be required. The city’s mask mandate will remain in place indefinitely.
Farley did say that the health department no longer plans to prohibit tailgating before games after June 11. Whether teams follow suit remains to be seen.
