Citizens Bank Park is about to get a whole lot louder.
After Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney and Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley said earlier this week that the Phillies will be permitted to have as many fans in attendance as they choose beginning Saturday, June 12, the organization announced Thursday morning that they will indeed return to 100% capacity at Citizens Bank Park on that day.
When the stadium opens back up for full capacity, the Phillies did say that “a limited number of seating pods will be available for fans who prefer to remain in a socially-distanced environment.” It’s not immediately clear what part of the stadium these seating pods will be at.
In the meantime, the Phillies also say that relaxed standards on social distancing that will go into effect on May 21 will allow them to sell up to 16,000 tickets beginning on that day with the first of three games against the Boston Red Sox. For a majority of the 2021 season, the Phillies have been permitted to have as many as 11,000 fans in attendance for home games.
Unlike Atlanta and some other stadiums that have returned to full capacity already, fans attending games at Citizens Bank Park will still be required to wear facemasks indefinitely.
Additionally, the Phillies say that beginning on June 12 fans will be allowed to tailgate before home games, a practice that hasn’t been allowed since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
