Watch: Bohm ties it up with opposite-field homer
Whatever struggles Alec Bohm has had early this season, he appears not to have lost the clutch gene.
Bohm tied things up with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the sixth inning Saturday, inside-outing an opposite-field homer to plate two. It wasn’t a monster big fly, traveling just 364 feet, but its 103-mph exit velocity was just enough to propel it into the first row in Citizens Bank Park’s right-field bleachers.
It somewhat soiled a strong outing from Taijuan Walker, who had been given a 4-0 lead before throwing a pitch in the first inning only to see it evaporate with Bohm’s shot.
It was the third homer of the season for the Phillies’ third baseman, who is now 5-for-14 since being left out of Joe Girardi’s starting lineup Wednesday in St. Louis. Overall, he’s hitting .221 with a .604 OPS on the season, and the Phillies’ struggling lineup will certainly look a whole lot stronger if this is a sign of things to come for the 24-year-old.
