After spending 17 days on the injured list, Jean Segura showed last night that he can be a major piece for the Philadelphia Phillies going forward.
He followed up four hits Friday with a line drive into the sun-soaked left-field corner at Truist Park that had enough to get the Phillies on the board:
Coming off the injured list, some worried that Segura would not be able to continue his torrid stretch. Segura hit .405 in the 11 games before his injury, after batting only .217 to that point.
At 112.4 mph, the home run was the hardest ball from Segura all year. It was hit so hard that even third base umpire Hunter Wendelstedt had trouble calling it. Wendelstedt drew criticism last night as home plate umpire for his inaccurate strike zone throughout the Phillies 12-2 blowout win.
