Without Alec Bohm, J.T. Realmuto or Andrew McCutchen in the lineup Friday, the Philadelphia Phillies needed some offense from an unlikely source to win Game 1 of their doubleheader against the Miami Marlins.
And – perhaps surprisingly against a team they’ve been snake-bitten by in recent years – the Phillies got just that.
After Bryce Harper, Rhys Hoskins and Didi Gregorius all reached base with two outs in the bottom of the first inning, Travis Jankowski promptly unloaded the bases with a double down the right-field line:
The Marlins would get two runs back off of Matt Moore in the top of the second inning, including one on an RBI double by Phillie-killer Miguel Rojas.
However, Jankowski plated another run in bottom of the third inning, singling into left-center field to score Hoskins.
Later in that same inning, Ronald Torreyes would bring Gregorius home with an RBI single of his own, with the Phillies increasing their lead to 5-2.
Speaking of Torreyes, he was a late addition to the lineup for Game 1 after Nick Maton was scratched with a right middle finger laceration, per Matt Gelb of The Athletic. Torreyes shined Friday afternoon, also making a tremendous play in the field to end the top of the sixth inning:
Five runs proved to be enough, as Archie Bradley and Ranger Suárez combined for 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief of Moore. With the victory, the Phillies move above the .500 mark, as they are now 45-44.

Travis Jankowski’s four RBIs in Game 1 were a new career high. The 30-year-old outfielder had previously driven in three runs on two occasions.
