Lehigh Valley IronPigs announce 144-game schedule for 2022 season

The IronPigs announced their 2022 schedule on Wednesday (Cheryl Pursell)

While the team is still playing in an unusual minor-league campaign, the 2022 season should look a bit more familiar for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, who announced their schedule for next year on Wednesday afternoon.

Gone are the days of the early-season alternate training site at Coca-Cola Park, as the Philadelphia Phillies’ Class AAA affiliate will kick off its 144-game season at the stadium on Tuesday, April 5.

The IronPigs will face the Columbus Clippers in the six-game series as they begin to play Triple-A East opponents outside of the Northeast Division and see a number of teams for the first time since the International League was disbanded by Major League Baseball in favor of the new league.

Lehigh Valley will play old rivals in the Clippers, Charlotte Knights, Norfolk Tides, Durham Bulls and Gwinnett Stripers again after not doing so in 2021. It will also travel to Omaha for the first time to play the former Pacific Coast League Storm Chasers.

Some aspects of the current season will still be present in 2022. Lehigh Valley will again play the aforementioned six-game series throughout the year, except for two separate three-game series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in the second half of the season. Off-days are set for each Monday again, aside from Independence Day on July 4, Labor Day on Sept. 5 and the start of the last regular-season series on Sept. 19.
