Minor-league week in review: Seranthony Domínguez continues rehab assignment
A Philadelphia Phillies big leaguer worked closer to his return to the majors in the latest week of the minor-league season.
Reliever Seranthony Domínguez made three appearances with the High-A Jersey Shore BlueClaws, starting a rehab stint he’ll continue into the upcoming week.
The BlueClaws are now 37-46 on the season; the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs are 37-44; the Double-A Reading Fightin Phils are 33-51; the Low-A Clearwater Threshers have a record of 38-41; the Florida Complex League Phillies remain 10-6 after not playing this past week.
Domínguez throws for Jersey Shore
Domínguez began his rehab assignment on Tuesday for Jersey Shore, throwing a perfect first inning with two strikeouts against the Aberdeen IronBirds. He appeared again on Friday with a scoreless inning, allowing a hit and a walk and striking out two. Domínguez made his final outing on Sunday, tossing another 1-2-3 inning.
The right-hander’s fastball topped around 94 mph in his first in-game appearances since injuring his elbow in 2019 and undergoing Tommy John surgery last summer. He threw a mix of fastballs and offspeed pitches, using each fairly effectively.
Sunday was the final outing in Jersey Shore for the 2018 breakout reliever. Domínguez should throw in Reading’s upcoming series against the Akron RubberDucks.
Hall hits the long ball in Lehigh Valley
After a rough start to the 2021 season, IronPigs slugger Darick Hall put together a powerful series in Lehigh Valley.
He homered in each of the last three games against the Buffalo Bisons. Two of the mammoth shots left Coca-Cola Park.
The first baseman is now hitting .224/.322/.400 with 10 home runs on the year.
Crouse makes debut for Reading
Hans Crouse, acquired along with Ian Kennedy and Kyle Gibson in a trade that sent Spencer Howard and two other pitchers to the Texas Rangers, made his Phillies system debut on Friday for the Fightins.
The right-hander threw five scoreless innings against the Richmond Flying Squirrels at The Diamond, giving up two hits and three walks while striking out five.
He now has a 3.05 ERA in 14 minor-league games this season.
Threshers resume after COVID postponements
After a COVID-19 situation at the Phillies complex kept the Threshers away from the field from July 30 through Tuesday and a rainout postponed Wednesday’s game, Clearwater finally got back to competition on Thursday.
The team played five games against the Bradenton Mauraders, winning the first 6-3 before dropping four straight.
