The Phillies will go for their ninth consecutive victory without one of their best hitters.
The team announced before Tuesday’s game that first baseman Rhys Hoskins was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left groin strain. The move is retroactive to Aug. 7, meaning he can return as early as Aug. 17. In a corresponding move, the Phillies recalled outfielder Mickey Moniak from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Hoskins last played on Aug. 5 against the Nationals. He suffered the injury while playing first base during a doubleheader on July 29. The injury kept him out of the series against Pittsburgh, but he returned on Aug. 2 as a pinch-hitter in Washington. He missed the entirety of the Mets series after going 3-for-5 with a game-winning double on Aug. 5.
IL stints can only be backdated by three days, which is why the move is retroactive to Aug. 7 as opposed to Aug. 5.
The good news is that the Phillies should be getting reinforcements back soon. Didi Gregorius is in the lineup after getting hit-by-a-pitch in a win against the Mets on Aug. 6. Andrew McCutchen is eligible to come off the injured list Wednesday and Freddy Galvis told MLB Network Radio on Saturday that he is seven to ten days away from returning to action.
Here are tonight’s lineups against the Dodgers. According to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, Justin Turner is also out with a groin injury. Mookie Betts was a late scratch.

Update 7:03 PM: General manager Sam Fuld spoke to Scott Franzke about Hoskins’ injury prior to the game.
“We were optimistic that he would be available for this series, but knowing that he would have to clear certain hurdles to get there … We pushed him today to try to get him to clear another hurdle to give us confidence in playing him tomorrow and [the groin] just didn’t respond the way we had hoped. We’ll put him on the IL and hope that he’s available as soon as our first game in Arizona.
According to Fuld, McCutchen ran the bases on Tuesday.
“Everything is lined up for [McCutchen] to return as soon as tomorrow. He’s hit, he’s run. He’s feeling good about himself,” Fuld said.
