Watch: Joey Votto delivers another crushing hit against Phillies

Phillies ace and Cy Young candidate Zack Wheeler ran into some trouble early tonight versus the Cincinnati Reds. Brad Miller’s lack of urgency led to an infield hit and Nick Castellanos was hit by a pitch to bring Joey Votto up with no outs. What happened next is no surprise:

Wheeler had gone 12 innings straight without an earned run until this 425-foot bomb in the top of the fourth inning. Votto has been incredible in his 15th major league season especially over the past few months. Since the All-Star break, he leads the Major Leagues in HR (14), RBI (32) and slugging
percentage (.851).

Coming into tonight’s game, he had a career .304/.405/.481 line with five home runs and 16 RBIs in 34 career games at Citizens Bank Park. Once again, Votto has made life difficult for the Phillies. They now trail the Reds 3-0 with major playoff implications on the line for both teams.
