Watch: Kyle Gibson hits first career home run

We could be witnessing the final weeks of National League baseball. Say goodbye to pitchers hitting, double switches and eight-hole hitters getting nothing to hit. The next collective bargaining agreement is expected to include the universal DH.

On that note Kyle Gibson, a career American League pitcher, hit his first-career home run in the third inning of Friday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. It’s Gibson’s first-career extra-base hit and his fourth hit since getting traded to the Phillies at the deadline. He’s the first Phillies pitcher to hit a home run since Vince Velasquez hit a two-run shot down the left-field line at Marlins Park loanDepot Park on June 28, 2019.

Take a good look at it. This might not happen again.

Gibson isn’t doing as well on the mound. He has surrendered four runs in the top of the fourth with nobody out.
