Beloved Phillies radio play-by-play man Scott Franzke is coming back for at least one more year on the broadcast team. He signed a one-year contract extension during the offseason, according to Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer. Franzke’s five-year contract he signed in November 2016 expired at the end of last season.

Phillies executive vice president Dave Buck told Lauber that the Phillies “hope to discuss a longer-term deal with Franzke later this year.”

Franzke, 49, is entering his 16th full season as the Phillies’ radio play-by-play man. He joined the team in 2006 as a pre- and postgame host and play-by-play man for the middle innings. When Scott Graham’s contract was not renewed at the end of 2006, Franzke took over as the Phillies’ top radio play-by-play announcer. Before coming to the Phillies, Franzke spent six years as a broadcaster with the Texas Rangers from 1997 to 1998 and 2002 to 2005.

He’ll call most home games opposite color analyst Larry Andersen, who is entering his 25th season as a Phillies broadcaster. The Phillies are in the midst of searching for Franzke’s broadcast partner for road games as Kevin Frandsen was hired by the Nationals to be MASN‘s color commentator for television broadcasts.
