Tom McCarthy, Ron Jaworski will call Eagles-Buccaneers nationally on radio

A week after he filled in for Jim Nantz on CBS’ top television broadcast, Philadelphia Phillies television announcer Tom McCarthy has drawn another big assignment for NFL Wild Card Weekend.

McCarthy will remain in Tampa Bay, as he’ll do the play-by-play for the defending Super Bowl Champion Buccaneers home playoff game against the upstart Eagles for Westwood One‘s national radio broadcast.

The 53-year-old will be joined by Eagles legend Ron Jaworski and eight-year NFL veteran Derek Rackley on the call. Scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, Westwood One‘s coverage of Eagles-Buccaneers will begin at 12:30 p.m. ET Sunday.

A week after sharing a booth with Tony Romo to call Carolina Panthers-Buccaneers, McCarthy is excited for the chance to work with Jaworski, who led the Eagles to an appearance in Super Bowl XV.

“I love the postseason of any sport, so I am excited to be part of Westwood’s coverage of the Eagles and Bucs,” McCarthy told Phillies Nation Tuesday morning via text message. “To be paired with Jaws, who I have known for a long time, is just so awesome. His perspective and energy about the game is hard to match. The Eagles are 2-2 in the postseason against the Bucs, and to have someone with first-hand knowledge of this matchup is so helpful! Now if only both teams could wear the uniforms from the 1979 season!”

Locally, Merril Reese and Mike Quick will have the radio call for the Eagles on SportsRadio 94 WIP. Joe Buck and Troy Aikman will be the television broadcasters for the game, which will air on FOX.

Currently, the Eagles are nine-point underdogs against Tom Brady and the Buccaneers.
