The Phillies could still use another lineup regular. It could be Nick Castellanos, who the Phillies are pursuing, according to multiple reports. The team could also look to make a trade for current Rays outfielder Austin Meadows.
According to Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Phillies have contacted the Rays regarding a potential trade for Meadows. Ken Rosenthal previously mentioned that Meadow’s name has been “prominent” in trade discussions.
Meadows, 26, had an excellent 2021, slashing .234/.315/.438 with 27 home runs and 106 RBIs. In four big league seasons, Meadows has a 124 OPS+ and received MVP down ballot votes in two seasons. He’s not exactly a great defender in the corner outfield spot, but he would likely be the team’s predominant left fielder with Kyle Schwarber being the primary option at designated hitter.
He is projected to make just over four million in his first year of arbitration eligibility in 2022. With other teams in on Meadows, the price tag could be high. If the Phillies do land Meadows, however, the team would possess a lethal trio of left-handed power bats in Bryce Harper, Schwarber and Meadows.
