Nick Castellanos’ introductory press conference had a few memorable one-liners that are bound to be printed on t-shirts sold just outside Citizens Bank Park.
The Phillies’ newest outfielder prefers to get straight to the point, so we’ll do the same. Here are some of the best quotes from the press conference courtesy of Castellanos, his agent Scott Boras and Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski (sorry, Joe Girardi).
“I’ve played over 1,000 big league games and I have zero playoff wins. You know what I’m saying? So cool, like I’ve made money. I’ve hit homers. I’ve played on TV, but I haven’t won no games that matter. You know what I’m saying? I would like to do that.” – Castellanos on his eagerness to go deep in the postseason.
Castellanos is 0-5 so far in the postseason. The Phillies, according to Castellanos, haven’t played in a game that “matters” in ten years. Ouch.
The old school baseball mentality is to suppress emotion for the sake of respecting the game. Castellanos doesn’t resonate with that sentiment. He could rattle fans who see him as too out there, but most Phillies fans will appreciate the fact that, at the bare minimum, he looks like he cares about what’s going on.
“The harmony of this lineup and what you have, literally: Right, left, right, left, right, left throughout this lineup. It’s a harmony. Forgive me, it’s now a Philharmony.” -Boras on what Castellanos brings to the lineup.
Boras strikes again:
Castellanos chose baseball over 8 a.m. lectures, hangovers and an absurd amount of debt. I would say it was a solid investment.
