Phillies select South Jersey native Jeff Singer to roster
Prior to Tuesday’s game against the Mets, the Phillies announced that they have selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Jeff Singer from Lehigh Valley. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Corey Knebel was placed on the COVID-19 injured list. Manager Joe Girardi said after Monday’s game that Knebel was dealing with flu-like symptoms and was unavailable to pitch.
Singer, 28, has been in the Phillies system since 2016. He posted a 4.75 ERA in 53 innings with Triple-A Lehigh Valley in 2021. Singer, who has a 3.20 career ERA in the minors, is an alum of Holy Cross High School in Delran, NJ and Rutgers-Camden.
Prospect Simon Muzziotti will also make his first major league start in center field on Tuesday. Here’s the lineup for Tuesday’s matchup against the Mets scheduled for 6:45 p.m. ET.
