A night after one of the worst collapses in franchise history, the Philadelphia Phillies got a gift from the weather gods.

Friday’s game against the New York Mets has been postponed with inclement weather in the forecast.

The Phillies say that the game scheduled for Friday will be made up as part of a split-admission doubleheader on Saturday, Aug. 20. Game 1 of the doubleheader will start at 1:05 p.m. ET, with first pitch for Game 2 slated to come at 7:15 p.m. ET. If you had tickets for this evening’s game, those will now be good for Game 1 of the doubleheader.

For Joe Girardi and company, the rainout gives them a bit more time to regroup after what felt like a season-altering loss Thursday. The Phillies have now lost four games in a row, and at 11-15, they are already seven games behind the Mets in the National League East race.

It’s unclear whether Saturday’s Phillies-Mets game — slated to begin at 4:05 p.m. ET — will go on as planned, given that the forecast tomorrow doesn’t look a whole lot better than Friday’s.

Whenever the Phillies-Mets series resumes, three-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer will get the ball for New York. The future Hall of Famer is 9-1 with a 2.20 ERA in 13 career starts at Citizens Bank Park.
