The Philadelphia Phillies announced Friday that Bake McBride and Ron Reed will be inducted onto the team’s Wall of Fame on Saturday, Aug. 6 as part of the team’s Alumni Weekend.
McBride spent parts of five seasons with the Phillies between 1977 and 1981, slashing .292/.335/.435 with 44 home runs, 258 RBIs, 98 stolen bases and a .770 OPS. The outfielder finished 10th in National League MVP voting in 1980.
Meanwhile, Reed pitched for the Phillies for eight seasons between 1976 and 1983. During that time, he went 57-38 with a 3.06 ERA, 3.07 FIP and 9.5 bWAR.
Throughout the weekend, the Phillies plan to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1980 team, the first in franchise history to win a World Series. Obviously, the COVID-19 pandemic two years ago prevented them from doing that in full.
“Our 40th anniversary salute to the 1980 World Series champion Phillies has been two years in the making, with initial plans postponed due to the pandemic,” Phillies Executive Vice President David Buck said in a release. “But sometimes the wait is worth it, and this certainly holds true for this year’s Toyota Phillies Alumni Weekend as we finally get the chance to celebrate the legacy of this historic team.”
Throughout the four-game weekend series against the Washington Nationals from Aug. 4 through Aug. 7, the Phillies will honor some of the greatest figures in franchise history.
In addition to paying homage to the 1980 team, the Phillies plan to have a full celebration for the late Dick Allen on Aug. 6. Allen, the 1964 NL Rookie of the Year, had his No. 15 retired in September of 2020, just months before his passing.
The Phillies had previously announced that they planned to honor public address announcer Dan Baker on Aug. 5, as he celebrates his 50th season serving in his current role.
