Phillies catching prospect Logan O’Hoppe continued his power-hitting tear in the latest week of the minor-league season.
The 22-year-old clubbed three more home runs in five games played in Double-A Reading’s six-game series at Hartford, bringing his season total to 11.
Despite O’Hoppe’s efforts, the Fightins dropped three straight to end the weekend to bring their record to 21-30; the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs are 30-24; the High-A Jersey Shore BlueClaws are 19-30; the Low-A Clearwater Threshers are 26-24.
O’Hoppe keeps displaying power
After a bit of a slow start at the plate this season, O’Hoppe’s bat has been the brightest spot on the Reading roster since mid-May. On Wednesday, he kept it going with a home run in the second game of his team’s series against the Yard Goats.
O’Hoppe only got hotter as the weekend rolled around, hitting a double and a grand slam on Saturday and going yard once again on Sunday:
The former 23rd-round pick broke out last season as he hit 17 homers across three levels, but he’s now on pace to exceed his promising 2021 campaign with 11 home runs and a .997 OPS in 44 games so far this year.
Threshers’ Yonamine delivers two straight walk-offs
Clearwater first baseman Micah Yonamine helped lift the Threshers to consecutive walk-off victories over Dunedin on Friday and Saturday.
The 21-year-old completed a three-run ninth inning on Friday with a game-winning single to down the Blue Jays 5-4. The very next game, Anthony Quirion and Yonamine slugged back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the ninth to win 3-2:
Yonamine, a 29th rounder in 2019, has a .632 OPS in 26 games this season and only two home runs. However, his latest long ball came at a crucial time for a Threshers team hovering around .500 in the Florida State League.
