Philadelphia Phillies prospect Johan Rojas continued his hot start at the Double-A level in the latest week of the minor-league season.
The 21-year-old outfielder is batting .342 since joining the Reading Fightin Phils on June 30 and hit his first home run with the team on Saturday.
Reading is now 36-45; the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs are tied for first place in the East division of the International League at 45-39; the High-A Jersey Shore BlueClaws are 27-53; the Low-A Clearwater Threshers are 40-40.
Rojas adjusting to Reading
Despite a shaky beginning to the season for the BlueClaws, the Phillies promoted Rojas to Double-A at the end of June, and the speedy right-handed hitter has taken full advantage so far.
Through 10 games with the Fightins, he’s slashing .342/.438/.512 with one homer and six stolen bases.
Even with Rojas’ early struggles at the plate, he’s been a force on the basepaths all season. He’s totaled 39 stolen bases in 80 games across two levels, good for eighth best in the minors, while only being caught once.
McGarry hits IL
Right-hander Griff McGarry left his Double-A debut early on Wednesday, later hitting the injured list with a blister. He had a dominant start to the season with Jersey Shore, posting a 3.86 ERA with 15.8 K/9 in 12 starts.
