Hall, Maton help Phillies bash their way to 4-game sweep of Nationals

As the 1980 World Series team was honored Sunday at Citizens Bank Park, the 2022 iteration of the Philadelphia Phillies donned their powder blue uniforms Sunday and looked very much like a club destined to be playing in the postseason themselves.
Darick Hall got the scoring start in the second inning with an opposite-field home run off of Washington Nationals starter Cory Abbott:
A frame after a bases-loaded walk by Alec Bohm gave the Phillies a 2-0 lead, the Phillies broke things wide open in the bottom half of the fourth inning.
Nick Maton connected for a two-run home run, a 414-foot blast that was the longest home run that the Phillies hit Sunday:
Rhys Hoskins then followed a double by Kyle Schwarber with his fourth home run in as many games:
And before the inning was out, Hall secured his second multi-home run game of his rookie season:
Maton would tack on another run with an RBI single that scored Bryson Stott in the home half of the seventh. And for good measure, Stott cleared the bases with a double an inning later, before being plated on an RBI single by Brandon Marsh. Marsh would then score on an RBI double by Maton, who drove in four runs Sunday.
After six solid innings from Aaron Nola, 13 runs were more than enough for the Phillies to clinch a four-game weekend sweep over the Nationals.
With the win, the Phillies improve to 60-48. Since being swept by the Chicago Cubs in the first series after the All-Star Break, the Phillies have won 11 of 13 games.
The Nationals — who probably have the worst roster in baseball after trading Juan Soto and Josh Bell to the San Diego Padres — are now 36-74.
Following an off day Monday, the Phillies will welcome the Miami Marlins to town for a three-game set on Tuesday. Zack Wheeler is slated to start for the Phillies.

- In his third career start, Cory Abbott walked five and surrendered four home runs. In total, the 26-year-old gave up seven earned runs over just 3 2/3 innings.
- Aaron Nola perhaps didn’t turn in his best start of the season Sunday afternoon, but he didn’t need to. Over six innings, Nola allowed five hits and just one run. The 29-year-old’s ERA now sits at 3.17.
