Phillies infielder Jean Segura returned to the field on a rehab assignment this past week after nearly two months away, suiting up for the Triple-A Lehigh Valley IronPigs in their latest series.

Segura, who was placed on the injured list on June 1 with a fractured right index finger, played in all six of the IronPigs’ games at Durham. Lehigh Valley is now 54-45 on the season; Double-A Reading is 41-55; High-A Jersey Shore is 35-61; Low-A Clearwater is 44-51.

Segura working his way back

The Phillies’ starting second baseman, Segura began his rehab on Tuesday as the designated hitter, and by the weekend he played full games in the field. He recorded hits in four straight games from Thursday to Sunday.

As noted by The Athletic‘s Matt Gelb, Segura could return as early as Tuesday as the Phillies head to Atlanta to take on the Braves. The 32-year-old would be a big boost for a lineup that’s also been missing reigning National League MVP Bryce Harper due to injury for an extended period of time. Segura had a .731 OPS in 44 games before his injury.

Brown promoted to Double-A

Right-hander Ben Brown was promoted to Reading after an impressive start of the season for Jersey Shore, as reported by Gelb on Sunday. The 22-year-old has been in the Phillies system since 2017 when he was drafted in the 33rd round.

Pitching in a BlueClaws rotation that has included big-name prospects like Andrew Painter, Mick Abel and Griff McGarry for most of the season, Brown has also caught some attention for his performance so far this season. In 16 outings, he’s posted a 3.08 ERA. Now to start August, he’ll head to Reading to join McGarry, who was promoted to Double-A last month.
