Noah Syndergaard will make his Philadelphia Phillies debut Thursday evening at Citizens Bank Park against the Washington Nationals, according to Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia.
The 29-year-old righty was acquired from the Los Angeles Angels for center fielder Mickey Moniak and minor league outfielder Jadiel Sánchez. The long-time New York Met pretty quickly has tried to embrace his new home city:
For the first time in his career, Syndergaard will have a new number. To this point, he’s worn No. 34 for his entire career, but that number is retired by the Phillies in honor of Hall of Famer Roy Halladay. So Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer says that Syndergaard will now wear No. 43.
Set to become a free agent after the 2022 season, Syndergaard is 5-8 with a 3.83 ERA, 3.95 FIP and 1.2 fWAR in 15 starts this season.
Kyle Gibson will return from the bereavement list to pitch Friday, followed by Ranger Suárez on Saturday and Aaron Nola Sunday, per Salisbury.
