Andrew Knapp makes first start for Giants against Phillies
An old friend will bat ninth for the San Francisco Giants in Friday’s game against the Phillies.
Andrew Knapp will make his first start for his hometown team at catcher. The Roseville, California native had his contract selected by the Giants on Wednesday. Both catchers on San Francisco’s active roster, Knapp and Austin Wynns, have both spent time in the Phillies organization. Wynns played 33 games with Triple-A Lehigh Valley this season before being traded to San Francisco for Michael Plassmeyer.
The Giants are Knapp’s fourth organization this season. In five seasons with the Phillies, Knapp slashed .214/.314/.322 with 13 home runs and 64 RBIs. He does have an .846 OPS in 174 at-bats in Triple A this season.
