ATLANTA — The Phillies will be missing a key reliever in the National League Division Series.

David Robertson was left off of the roster. Manager Rob Thomson said the right-hander strained his right calf as he jumped to celebrate Bryce Harper’s second inning home run in Game 2 of the NLWCS. He received a Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injection in Philadelphia on Monday. He has not been ruled out for a possible NLCS.

“He’s devastated. He really wanted to pitch in the series,” Thomson said. “He knows how big of a part he is to this club. Trust me, he’s gonna work and do everything he can to get back as soon as he can.”

With Robertson out, the Phillies are going to need some other bullpen arms to step up. Andrew Bellatti, Brad Hand and Connor Brogdon have all not pitched since the Houston series, but they will be needed throughout this five-game playoff series. Seranthony Domínguez, José Alvarado and Zach Eflin will pitch in the biggest spots late in the games. Thomson did not rule out using Noah Syndergaard in a traditional relief role.

To replace Robertson, Nick Nelson was added to the roster. Additionally, Dalton Guthrie was added in favor of Nick Maton. Thomson cited the Braves’ decision to carry two left-handers in the bullpen as well as Guthrie’s experience playing the outfield. Guthrie could be a late-game defensive replacement in the corner outfield.
