ATLANTA — Game 2 of the NLDS, which was originally scheduled to begin at 4:35 p.m. ET, will start in a weather delay. No start time was given at the moment.
Phillies manager Rob Thomson says there will be another meeting with the league regarding the weather situation at 4:00 p.m. ET.
“I think the general consensus is that we will not start a game unless we feel like we can finish it,” Thomson said. “We’re not looking for a delay. I don’t think anybody is. The Braves, us, Major League Baseball. If there’s a window, then we’ll go.”
Given that both teams arguably have their two best starters on the mound in Zack Wheeler and Kyle Wright and similar concerns regarding their No. 4 starter situation, stopping and starting would be disastrous for both sides.
The forecast calls for a strong chance of storms up until the 7:00 p.m. ET window. If the game does get postponed, the two teams will play Thursday, meaning the Phillies and Braves will play four straight games. Eliminating the travel day between Games 2 and 3 could impact bullpen availability for both clubs.
Thomson has still not announced a starting pitcher for a possible Game 4.
If you’re attending the game in Cobb County, Georgia, the Braves announced that all non-alcoholic food and beverages will be sold at a 50% discount leading up to first pitch. At least there’s a perk to waiting out the rain.
