The Philadelphia Phillies will turn to Noah Syndergaard for Game 3 of the World Series, Rob Thomson announced after a Game 2 loss to the Houston Astros.

Ranger Suárez will start Game 4 in Philadelphia on Tuesday, after appearing as a reliever in Game 1 of the World Series.

“We figure in Game 4, we can extend him out a little bit more than we could have if he was pitching Game 3,” Thomson said of Suárez Saturday night.

Syndergaard has allowed just one run in 5 1/3 innings of work this postseason. The 30-year-old does have prior World Series experience, having earned the win in Game 3 of the 2015 Fall Classic while pitching for the New York Mets. In that game, Syndergaard went six innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs in a 9-3 win over the Kansas City Royals.

Suárez struggled with his control in Game 1 of the NLDS against the Atlanta Braves, but has become a postseason hero for the Phillies since then. In addition to a strong outing in Game 3 of the NLCS, Suárez has flashed his versatility in two key relief outings in October, including inducing the final two outs to clinch the National League Pennant.
