Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley were among the many Philadelphia sports legends in attendance during Game 3 of the World Series and it’s finally their turn to be honored with an invitation to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
The Phillies announced on Wednesday afternoon that the legendary double play duo will throw out the first pitch prior to Game 4 of the 2022 World Series.
Utley made the trip across the pond to be in attendance to see his Phillies win it all. The former Phillies second baseman recently moved to London to work as a league ambassador in the U.K.
Throughout Tuesday’s game, the cameras caught numerous Phillies in the suites taking in the game, from Ryan Howard to Chooch to Brad Lidge.
There was some mystery as to whether or not Utley would make the trip, but his presence was all but confirmed when his wife Jen was shown on Phanavision alongside “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” stars Kaitlin Olson and Rob McElhenney.
Many noticed that Utley, when he was reluctantly shown on the big screen, was wearing a similar outfit to the one he wore during the 2008 World Series parade.
Rollins, who works within the organization as a special advisor to Dave Dombrowski, was also in attendance on Tuesday. Even if the Phillies weren’t in the World Series, Rollins was slated to be in town this week for his induction into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame, which was scheduled to take place Thursday at Live! Casino, but that’s likely to be moved back to a later date with the World Series going on across the street.
Ryan Howard, Shane Victorino, Jayson Werth and Cole Hamels caught four ceremonial first balls from Philly sports legends Mike Schmidt, Julius Erving, Bernie Parent and Brandon Graham prior to Game 3.
