Dave Dombrowski’s first transaction as president of baseball operations of the Philadelphia Phillies was to acquire José Alvarado in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays.
His latest deal with the Rays probably won’t have that same level of impact, but it should help to bolster the outfielding depth in the organization.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Phillies have completed a trade with the Rays to acquire minor league outfielder Jordan Qsar. Marc Topkin of The Tampa Bay Times has confirmed the trade.
Qsar, 27, has yet to make his Major League Debut, so it would seem unlikely that he would be a candidate for the Opening Day roster. Additionally, he’s a left-handed hitter, so while he can play all three outfield positions, Qsar doesn’t necessarily profile as someone that could spell Brandon Marsh in center field against left-handed pitching.
A 25th-round pick out of Pepperdine University in 2018, Qsar split last season between Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham. In 102 games, Qsar slashed .227/.321/.452 with 17 home runs, 47 RBIs, 44 walks and a .773 OPS.
