J.T. Realmuto’s Spring Training journey may have come to a premature conclusion.
In the penultimate game of Grapefruit League play, Realmuto was ejected by home plate umpire Randy Rosenberg for … something:
This came after a pitch-clock violation for Craig Kimbrel, and perhaps Rosenberg thought that Realmuto in some way was trying to show him up. But even the broadcast team for the Toronto Blue Jays pointed out that Realmuto likely thought that the umpire had decided to throw the ball back to Kimbrel himself, rather than using the All-Star catcher as a middleman.
In the grand scheme of things, Rosenberg allowed Realmuto to spend a little less time in the Florida heat catching in an exhibition game and came off looking thin-skinned.
