Bryson Stott is off to a historic start.
The 25-year-old has tied Willie “Puddin’ Head” Jones (1950) for the modern day Phillies record for the longest hit streak to begin a season in team history at 16.
The record-tying hit was a leadoff home run, his first of the season and his first career home run from the No. 1 spot.
Stott has become a “Whiz Kid” himself. He’s slashing .385/.394/.523 to begin the season. His ability to consistently churn out a quality at-bats as well as his bat-to-ball skills and high on-base percentage have made him a perfect fit at the top of the order for Rob Thomson.
The longest hit streak in Phillies history belongs to Jimmy Rollins, who hit safely in 38 consecutive games from August 23, 2005 to April 5, 2006.
