Outfielder Cristian Pache’s hot start to his Philadelphia Phillies tenure has been interrupted by injury.
The former top prospect tore the meniscus in his right knee and will be placed on the 10-day injured list, the Phillies announced Saturday. Outfielder Dalton Guthrie will replace Pache on the active roster.
Pache suffered the injury while running the bases after doubling in Philadelphia’s 3-1 win over the Astros at Minute Maid Park on Friday. He had been continuing the success he’s found since joining the Phillies at the start of the season.
After struggling to hit in parts of three seasons with Atlanta and Oakland to begin his career, Pache has exploded offensively in his opportunities as right-handed platoon outfielder for the Phillies. The 24-year-old has batted .360/.360/.600 in 18 games with a home run and three doubles.
Guthrie, who spent time on the Phillies roster last September and October and this opening day, will fill the void left by Pache as a right-handed outfielder after posting an .861 OPS in 21 games at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
