Final Score: Phillies 15, Marlins 3
The Phillies were the only team last year who had Sandy Alcantara’s number. In six starts against the Phillies, the Marlins ace had a 3.16 ERA, but Miami lost four of his six starts.
Sandy wasn’t the issue in most of those starts; the Marlins offense more often than not failed to support him, but tonight, it didn’t matter how many runs the Marlins would score.
Alcantara surrendered nine earned runs, the most he’s had in a start since 2021, in a 15-3 loss to the Phillies.
With the win, the Phillies move to 4-6.
Jake Cave began the third inning by catching a 3-2 sinker on the inside corner and drilled it to deep right field to get the Phillies on the board.
The next two batters, Kody Clemens and Garrett Stubbs were retired, but once the lineup turned over, seven men came to the plate and four more runs scored.
It started when leadoff hitter Bryson Stott fell behind 0-2, evened the count and sent the sixth pitch of the at-bat the other way for a base hit. He stole second on the first pitch to Trea Turner and then the Phillies shortstop reached for a pitch off the plate and flicked it the other way to score another run.
Schwarber walked, Nick Castellanos doubled, Alec Bohm singled home two and Brandon Marsh doubled to cap off a five-run third inning against the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner.
“I think now with the pitch clock, the longer the innings go, the more it benefits a team.” Turner said. “So if you can get those hits or walks or guys on base later in games, I think that’s a big advantage for the offense.”
It was a productive night for the offense, who scored only 32 runs through the first nine games. Turner, Castellanos, Bohm and Marsh all had at least three hits. Turner broke an 0-for-9 and Bohm hit his third home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth. Marsh hit his second home run of the season in the eighth:
The offensive explosion shouldn’t overshadow Matt Strahm’s second-consecutive strong start. He struck out six over five shutout innings. He would have gone a bit longer if the Phillies did not send 10 and nine men to the plate in the third and fifth inning respectively.
“I stared at [Rob Thomson’s] hand before I shook it,” Strahm said. “I was like ‘You sure?’ I understand it. I understand the role.”
Before the game got out of hand, former Phillie Jean Segura received a nice ovation from Phillies fans in his first at-bat. Prior to the game, the former Phillies second baseman received his 2022 National League championship ring:

- McKinley Moore made his MLB debut in the sixth inning of Monday’s game. His pitching line was a bizarre 1 1/3 innings, one hit, three earned runs and three walks.
- Castellanos was ejected in the seventh inning after a called strike three way inside the zone. Castellanos marked a spot where the pitch was with his bat and home plate umpire John Libka reacted by ejecting him.
