The Philadelphia Phillies announced this evening that their home opener has been postponed from Thursday until Friday due to expected inclement weather.
“After consultation with Major League Baseball and the uncertain forecast tomorrow between 3:00 and 7:00 p.m., we have elected to move our home opener with the Reds to Friday,” Executive vice president Dave Buck said in a statement. “With the open date, we have the ability to reschedule the game for our fans.”
Those who purchased tickets for the game initially scheduled to be played Thursday will now have their tickets honored for Friday’s game. The home opener will still start at 3:05 p.m. ET, with the gates at Citizens Bank Park opening to fans at 12:35 p.m. ET.
After a 1-5 roadtrip to start the season, the Phillies will hand the ball to Zack Wheeler in their home opener. The Phillies will be looking to win their third consecutive opener at Citizens Bank Park.
Meanwhile, the Reds are off to a 2-3 start after losing 100 games a season ago. Cincinnati will be coming off of consecutive off days, as their home game against the Chicago Cubs was rained out Wednesday. Hard-throwing righty Hunter Greene — who allowed three earned runs over 3 1/3 innings pitched on Opening Day — is expected to start for David Bell and the Reds.
