Phillies reportedly plan to call up Kody Clemens as Darick Hall deals with injury

The Philadelphia Phillies are off to a 1-5 start in 2023, and they continue to deal with bad luck on the injury front.

According to Jon Heyman of The New York Post, the Phillies plan to call Kody Clemens up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take the roster spot of Darick Hall. That suggests that Hall is headed for the injured list, though the Phillies haven’t made any such announcements to this point.

While Hall initially remained in the game, he was later removed with Edmundo Sosa coming in to play third base and Alec Bohm shifting across the diamond to first base. At the time of his exit, the Phillies called Hall’s injury “a right thumb sprain.”

Hall has been the primary first baseman early in 2023, as the Phillies look to replace Rhys Hoskins, who is expected to miss the entirety of the season after tearing his left ACL late in Spring Training.

Clemens, 26, was acquired from the Detroit Tigers along with Gregory Soto in a January trade that saw Dave Dombrowski and the Phillies part with Matt Vierling and Nick Maton. He is, of course, the son of Roger Clemens, who won a record seven Cy Young Awards during his career.

One of the final cuts in Spring Training, Clemens hit .319 with three home runs and 10 RBIs in 47 at-bats during Grapefruit League play. Clemens had two hits and an RBI in his first 13 at-bats in the Triple-A season for the IronPigs.
