Aaron Nola allowed 19 home runs during the 2022 regular season. That number is all the way up to 14 through 14 starts.
He gave up a solo home run to the Dodgers’ David Peralta in the fourth inning with two outs. It’s the 17th run Nola has surrendered with two outs this season. It’s a weird split considering hitters came into the game with just a .444 OPS against him with two outs.
Peralta’s eighth career home run against the Phillies extended an unfortunate streak for Nola. Saturday marks the 10th consecutive outing in which Nola has allowed at least one home run. He ties Bruce Chen for the third longest such streak in Phillies history. Chen allowed a home run in 10 consecutive games from April 23 to June 19, 2001. Randy Wolf (April to June 2000) has the longest streak in Phillies history at 12.
Saturday was also Nola’s 11th consecutive start with at least six innings pitched, the longest current streak in the majors. He’s pitched into the sixth inning of every start with the exception of his rough Opening Day outing against the Rangers. He’s been a valuable innings eater for the Phillies this season, but opposing hitters are making him pay when he makes a mistake.
The Dodgers won 9-0 thanks to a brilliant outing from rookie Bobby Miller and a six-run Dodger outburst in the seventh. Nola’s line closes at 6 1/3 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 7 SO, 1 HR. Jeff Hoffman, who came in to relieve Nola, faced five batters and allowed four runs to score, with two of those being inherited runners. A two-run home run from J.D. Martinez sealed the deal for Los Angeles.
