As the northeastern part of the United States deals with air quality concerns because of wildfires in Canada, Wednesday evening’s series finale between the Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies has been postponed, the team announced.
Given that both teams had been scheduled to be off Thursday, the plan now is to wrap up the interleague series tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park. Gates at the stadium will open up at 4:35.
Zack Wheeler had been slated to pitch for the Phillies, so presumably he’ll still get the ball tomorrow against RHP Reese Olson for the Tigers.
Like the Phillies, the Yankees were forced to postpone their home game at Yankee Stadium Wednesday, where air quality appears to be significantly worse even than in Philadelphia:
The Yankees and White Sox are now slated to have a doubleheader Thursday, assuming air quality improves dramatically.
Interestingly, the Washington Nationals will still host the Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday evening, so evidently the air quality in D.C. hasn’t deteriorated to the same degree as it has in New York and Philadelphia.
