The Atlanta Braves have claimed yet another former Phillies utility man off waivers.

Outfielder Dalton Guthrie was claimed by Atlanta on Thursday, per a team announcement. He was designated for assignment by the San Francisco Giants a week ago. The Giants used his roster spot to select the contract of former Phillies pitcher Mauricio Llovera.

Guthrie will join former Phillie Luke Williams at the Braves’ Triple-A affiliate in Gwinnett. Williams was claimed off waivers by Atlanta from the Dodgers on June 5. To get Guthrie on the Braves’ 40-man roster, pitcher Nick Anderson was transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Guthrie, 27, did not appear in a major league game for the Giants. He went 11-for-40 in nine games with Triple-A Sacramento after being designated for assignment by the Phillies.

The Braves claiming Guthrie comes at an interesting time for the Phillies, who need to bring up another infielder with Josh Harrison going on the 10-day IL. They could bring up Drew Ellis, who has a .798 OPS in Triple A since he was demoted in the middle of June or select one of Weston Wilson and Scott Kingery to the 40-man roster. Guthrie came up through the Phillies system as an infielder, but began playing more center field last season before his promotion to the majors.
