CLEVELAND — Bryce Harper only knows how to play the game one way, and the Philadelphia Phillies got the latest reminder of that Friday evening in the two-time NL MVP’s debut at first base.
After making some routine plays at first base in the first two innings, Harper got a little unconventional in the bottom of the third inning to end Guardians shortstop Amed Rosario’s at-bat:
You get the sense that the postgame message to Harper will be something along the lines of “Great job, now never do that again.”
Not only does Friday mark Harper’s first ever start at first base, but it’s the first time he’s played in the field at all since April of 2022, when he initially suffered the UCL tear that eventually forced him to undergo Tommy John surgery.
