The audible groan you hear across the Delaware Valley Friday is Philadelphia Phillies fans realizing that the team’s series opener tonight against the St. Louis Cardinals will be streamed exclusively on Apple TV+.
If you’re looking for a silver lining, the Phillies and Cardinals will get a strong broadcast team for Friday evening’s game. Wayne Randazzo — the play-by-play voice of the Los Angeles Angels — will be on the call, along with former NL Rookie of the Year Dontrelle Willis. Heidi Watney will be the dugout reporter.
This is the second season of Apple TV+‘s Friday Night Baseball, but there’s been one major change in 2023. A year ago, you just needed an Apple ID — or to create one — and to download the app to be able to watch Friday Night Baseball. This year, however, you either need to have a $6.99 a month subscription or to be in your seven-day free trial.
If you’re a Phillies fan that hasn’t already exhausted your seven-day free trial of Apple TV+, now might be a good time to cash it in. Not only will the Phillies be on Apple TV+ this evening, but they are slated to return next Friday when they host the New York Mets at Citizens Bank Park.
If for whatever reason you don’t wish to watch the game on Apple TV+, it will still be available to listen to on SportsRadio 94 WIP
, with Scott Franzke and Kevin Stocker on the call. Oscar Budejen and Bill “El Gringo Malo” Kulik will call the game in Spanish on WTTM 1680.
