Phillies to wear powder blue uniforms for NLDS Game 4

The Philadelphia Phillies will indeed wear their popular powder blue throwback uniforms for Game 4 of the NLDS against the Atlanta Braves on Thursday at Citizens Bank Park, according to Matt Gelb of The Athletic.

Since 2018, the Phillies have worn their powder blue uniforms for all Thursday games played at Citizens Bank Park. The threads were initially the team’s primary road uniforms from 1972-1988.

While it’s not surprising to hear that the Phillies will don their powder blue uniforms Thursday, regular season uniform schedules don’t always translate to the postseason. For example, during the regular season, the Phillies wear their alternate red tops for the final day of each road series. They didn’t, however, wear the red tops in Game 2 of the NLDS in Atlanta. Last postseason, the Phillies only wore the red tops once, in Game 2 of the NLCS at San Diego. They opted not to wear them for postseason matchups in St. Louis, Atlanta and Houston.

The Phillies only had one playoff game on a Thursday during their 2022 postseason run, and it came because rain altered the schedule of the World Series games in Philadelphia. The Phillies wore their powder blue uniforms for Game 5 of the World Series, a 3-2 loss to the Astros. It marked the first time that the powder blue uniforms were worn in the World Series since Game 2 of the 1983 Fall Classic.
