Watch: Rhys Hoskins throws out first pitch before Phillies postseason opener

Before the Philadelphia Phillies began their first home postseason game of 2023, they honored the man who electrified Citizens Bank Park in Game 3 of last year’s NLDS.

Rhys Hoskins — who has missed the entirety of the 2023 season after tearing his left ACL late in Spring Training — received an ovation and threw out a successful first pitch to Kyle Schwarber prior to Game 1 of the NLWCS against the Miami Marlins:

Phillies manager Rob Thomson revealed Tuesday afternoon that Hoskins will head to Clearwater Wednesday, with the plan for him to take daily live batting practice sessions. The 30-year-old slugger hasn’t been ruled out for a World Series return as a DH and/or pinch hitter, should the Phillies make it that far.

Hoskins is set to become a free agent this offseason, so it’s possible Tuesday’s first pitch will be the final time he takes the field at Citizens Bank Park in a Phillies uniform. If that’s the case, a sellout crowd showed plenty of appreciation for the 148 home runs that Hoskins hit in parts of six seasons in red pinstripes.
