Five pitches in, the Phillies have a 2-0 lead against Diamondbacks ace Zac Gallen.
Kyle Schwarber jumped on a first-pitch fastball to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead on a leadoff home run.
It was his fourth-career leadoff home run in the postseason, his third as a Phillie and first since he homered against Justin Verlander in the bottom of the first inning of Game 5 of the 2022 World Series.
The ball left the bat at an impressive 117.1 mph.
It was Schwarber’s first home run of the 2023 postseason. All six of his home runs in last year’s postseason came in the NLCS and World Series.
After a fly out to right by Trea Turner, the birthday boy Bryce Harper jumped on another first pitch and hit another no doubter to give the Phillies a 2-0 lead.
It’s the first time Gallen has allowed multiple home runs in a game since Aug. 28, when he allowed four in a start against the Dodgers.
The Phillies have a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second following another solo home run from Nick Castellanos.
