Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, J.T. Realmuto and Trea Turner have been named 2023 Silver Slugger Award finalists.
Schwarber, Realmuto and Turner are all looking to win their second consecutive Silver Slugger Award. Harper was nominated, but fell one game short of eligibility to win the award in 2022.
Turner’s nomination is a testament to his impressive bounce back over the last two months of the regular season. He finished the season with a .266/.320/.459 slash line with 26 home runs and 76 RBIs. Prior to the end of the Marlins series at the beginning of August, Turner was at .235/.290/.368 with 10 home runs and 34 RBIs. Turner won his first Silver Slugger Award with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2022.
Schwarber also won his first Silver Slugger Award in 2022. He finished second in the National League with 47 home runs in 2023. Across two seasons with the Phillies, including the regular and postseason, Schwarber has hit 104 home runs.
Realmuto won the Silver Slugger Award at catcher in 2018, 2019 and 2022. Harper won the award in 2015 and 2021.
Schwarber was nominated as an outfielder. Harper was nominated as a designated hitter.
Established in 1980, the Silver Slugger Award is handed out annually to the best offensive player at each position in both leagues. Mike Schmidt is the Phillies’ all-time leader in Silver Slugger Awards with six from 1980-84 and 1986. Chase Utley is second with four Silver Slugger Awards from 2006-09. Schmidt, Utley, Manny Trillo and Realmuto are the only players to win multiple Silver Slugger Awards as Phillies.
The winners will be announced as part of an MLB Network special on Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. ET.
