The Phillies have added a Cole Hamels retirement night to the 2024 promotional schedule.
Hamels, who spent 10 seasons with the Phillies from 2006 to 2015, will retire as a Phillie in a pregame ceremony on Friday, June 21 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Fans 15 & over attending the game will receive a 2009 National League champions replica ring.
The southpaw stepped away from the game last summer after comebacks with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2021 and San Diego Padres in 2023. His last MLB appearance came with the Atlanta Braves during the 2020 season. He underwent shoulder surgery in 2021.
Hamels is the last active player from the 2008 World Series championship winning squad to retire from MLB.
The Phillies hosted retirement nights for Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley and Ryan Howard during the 2019 season.
Hamels retirement night and the ring giveaway is the highlight of the Phillies’ preliminary promotions schedule for 2024. Here are some of the other big giveaways already listed. More are typically released in the weeks leading up to spring training:
- Sleeveless hoodie for kids 14 & under on Sunday, April 14.
- Bryson Stott bobble figurine for all fans on Friday, May 17.
- Trea Turner bobble figurine for all fans on Friday, July 26.
