Phillies reportedly avoid arbitration with Ranger Suárez, Jeff Hoffman

The Phillies and Ranger Suárez, according to a report from Matt Gelb of The Athletic, have agreed to a $5.05 million deal for 2024, avoiding arbitration. Jeff Hoffman also reportedly agreed to a $2.2 million deal for 2024.

Suárez, 28, is in his second season of arbitration eligibility. He made $2.95 million in 2023. He will be a free agent after the 2025 season.

The 31-year-old Hoffman is scheduled to become a free agent at the end of this season. His $2.2 million salary for 2024 is a raise from the $1.3 million he made as a minor league signing in 2023.

Suárez and Hoffman were two of five remaining arbitration-eligible Phillies who have yet to agree to a salary with the club. Gregory Soto, Edmundo Sosa and Alec Bohm are the three remaining players who either need to agree by today’s 1 p.m. ET deadline or exchange figures by 8 p.m. ET tonight.

Players who exchange figures with the team by the 8 p.m. ET deadline could end up going to a hearing during spring training to determine their 2024 salary. Teams and players, however, have the option to settle before a hearing takes place.
