A pair of familiar faces will once again be part of the Phillies organization in 2024 as members of the player development staff, the club announced Monday.
Former first baseman Brock Stassi is returning for his second year as a minor-league hitting coach, while former utility man Phil Gosselin is joining for his first full season as a special assignment analyst in Philadelphia’s baseball development department.
Stassi will serve as the hitting coach at Double-A Reading after spending the 2023 season in the same position for High-A Jersey Shore. The former 33rd-round draft pick by the Phillies in 2011 won Eastern League MVP for the Fightin Phils in 2015, then made headlines with his emotional reaction to cracking the big leagues for Philadelphia in 2017. He wrapped up his playing career with a return to Reading in 2021 before making the switch to coaching.
Gosselin, a Malvern Prep graduate, played in parts of 10 major-league seasons. He spent 2019 and 2020 with the Phillies, starting 28 games in the abbreviated 2020 season. Gosselin finished his career in the majors with the Angels in 2022 and began working in the Phillies front office during the 2023 season.
