First Look: Adjustments made to Phillies pinstriped uniforms for 2024

The Philadelphia Phillies will be getting City Connect uniforms at some point in 2024, with the jerseys already potentially leaking online. But the new uniforms won’t be the only changes to the Phillies aesthetics this year.

All 30 MLB teams have switched to Nike’s Vapor Premier jerseys in 2024, with the stated goal of the new template being “to improve mobility, moisture management and fit, while keeping sustainability in mind.” As pitchers and catchers have begun to report to Spring Training this week, we’ve started to get a look at some of the subtle — or, if you have a trained eye, not-so-subtle — differences in the new design.

The most notable difference in the Nike Vapor Premier jerseys appear to be on the back. The MLB logo has been lowered, and the name plate has been contracted. Here, via Phillies Nation‘s Destiny Lugardo, is a look at the updated pinstriped jerseys.

For comparison, here’s a look at the back of the previous jerseys.

While Fanatics actually produces the uniforms and Nike licenses their branding, these adjustments were the decision of Nike, according to Paul Lukas of Uni Watch.

Love the adjustments or hate them, they will be universal across all MLB jerseys this season. Phillies Nation is working on obtaining images of the road gray uniforms, home alternate creams and throwback powder blues in the new template as well, so stay tuned there.

What may also stand out is the fact that the Phillies are wearing their pinstripes — the club’s primary home uniforms since the 1992 season — for Spring Training. Get used to that.

As Phillies Nation first reported in December, the Phillies red jerseys — which served as both their Spring Training tops and an alternate on the road during the regular season — have been shelved. That’s because of Nike’s “4+1” rule, which means they will produce four uniforms per team, and a fifth if it’s a City Connect. So the Phillies have pinstripes, gray, powder blue and cream as their four, and will be getting a +1 in the form of a City Connect in 2024. It appears that during the spring, the Phillies will just wear their home pinstripes in Clearwater, and road grays everywhere else.

Thus far, the Phillies haven’t announced whether they will add a uniform sponsor in 2024. Last season, they removed the numbers that used to be on the left sleeves of the pinstripes and grays (seen above in the 2022 World Series), seemingly preparing to add a sponsorship patch in its place. That’s another uniform storyline worth following in the coming weeks and months.
