The Milwaukee Brewers will visit Citizens Bank Park from June 3-5, a series that initially seemed likely to feature Philadelphia Phillies fans showing their appreciation to Rhys Hoskins for what he did during parts of six seasons in red pinstripes.
It’s now unclear whether Phillies fans will get that opportunity.
After he exited Monday evening’s loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Brewers placed Hoskins on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain. Manager Pat Murphy told the collective media — including Todd Rosiak of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel — Tuesday evening that Hoskins will miss between two and four weeks with his hamstring strain.
This suggests that Hoskins’ hamstring strain isn’t as high a grade of the one Trea Turner is dealing with. Though Turner declined to reveal the grade of the left hamstring strain he sustained in early May, he said at the time of his injury that he expected to be out “six weeks or so.”
Nonetheless, Hoskins would need to hit the front end of that recovery timeline to have any chance to play against the Phillies early next month, particularly if he’ll require a short rehab stint.
Even after missing the entire 2023 season with a torn left ACL, Hoskins landed a two-year/$34 million deal with the Brewers in free agency this past offseason. The deal includes a player opt out after the 2024 season. The 31-year-old slugger is currently slashing .233/.340/.474 with nine home runs, 27 RBIs, 18 walks and an .813 OPS.
If Hoskins doesn’t play against the Phillies during their trip to Citizens Bank Park next month, the two teams will meet again at American Family Field in Milwaukee from Sept. 16-18. The Phillies (30-13) and Brewers (25-17) are both currently leading their respective divisions, so it’s possible they could meet in the playoffs again, with Hoskins’ first time playing as a visitor at Citizens Bank Park coming in the postseason.
